| World View is an on-going syndicated column by renowned nature photographer Frans Lanting that merges photos with informative stories, communicating his concepts, methods and magic behind the images.
__________________________________________________________________________________________ While some photographs may say more than a thousand words, others gain when they are accompanied by text. Many of Frans Lanting’s favorite images fall into the latter category, as some of his most challenging photographs are illustrations of concepts — preconceived ideas communicated with image and text. The images in the World View series exist in this framework: photographs that can be appreciated as images in their own right but have not been presented before in the context to which they were conceived. In his World View columns, Lanting not only shares a unique selection of images but also intimately reveals something beyond what is seen at first glance, something of the intellect brought to bear on the photographic process. With some images he recounts the methodology and hardware used to make a photo; in others he communicates the tales that inspired a photographic concept before the shutter was released, or adds a foundation of natural history that gives an image extra dimension. Additional images in the series exist with personal anecdotes and rich descriptions from the field. |
