Today I was honored and privileged to participate in the final judging for the first “Frans Lanting Award” for photography, together with Holland’s first astronaut, André Kuipers, Late Night TV talk show host Humberto Tan, National Geographic Netherlands’ Editor in Chief, Aart Aarsbergen, and TV news anchor and photographer Sacha de Boer. We reviewed hundreds of interesting images today and selected the top 25, which will be announced tomorrow evening during Humberto Tan’s RTL Late Night Show on Dutch network TV. I am delighted too, that I’ll be a guest on his show, and we’ll talk about the award—and I’ll share some images, including some new ones from my recent fieldwork in Botswana. During Humberto’s show, online voting will open for the “People’s Favorite” image—anyone from the Netherlands and Belgium can vote for their favorite at franslantingaward.nl. The two winners—one chosen by the panel of judges, and one chosen by the public—will be announced at the end of November.  I will mentor the two winners and will take them for a private workshop to the Oostvaardersplassen, a unique nature reserve in the Netherlands that is an inspiration to me.
